The witch in our story is named Wyndi. She lives in a bustling city that she longs to depart from because it carries far too many memories that she’d rather forget. At the age of eighteen, she found herself in the precarious situation of being pregnant far too early. Regardless of becoming a mother while she still felt like a child herself, Wyndi centered the next twenty years of her life around her daughter.
Save for joy and sorrow, which claimed her life in equal measure, Wyndi truly lived in fear. Since she was a young child, her life was—like so many of us—rife with challenges. For Wyndi, the challenges came in the form of unhealthy, and even abusive, relationships that began with her parents.
Her mother died when she was little, so she had no relationship with her at all that she could remember. Her father became physically abusive toward her after her mother’s death. This wasn’t any “normal” type of abuse; if there even is such a thing.
Wyndi’s father seemed to be possessed by something even darker than the blackness of his own heart. The layers of abuse that took place shifted from beatings to blackmail to manipulation. A lifetime of this from the man who was meant to be a foundation for his young daughter destroyed her inside.
As what often does happen, the witch went on to marry an equally abusive man, only this man wove his abuse on deep, emotional levels. And yet… what no one knows, and what no one will ever know (at least Wyndi hopes no one will ever know), is that Wyndi had a big secret. It’s the kind of secret that haunts you for the rest of your life. A messy secret. A dirty secret. A bloody secret.
But Wyndi didn’t care. What she did had to be done so she and her daughter could be free. This secret she would carry to the grave for it was their salvation and a fresh start.
The secret incident will not be named here. It’s secret, after all. And though it happened seventeen years ago, it’s only been a few years since Wyndi felt it was safe enough to truly start over. Now, her daughter was twenty years old and studying marine biology at university while working at a local aquarium. Alone in the city with no work of her own, the witch longed to move to the ocean, where ample space and quiet awaited.

The Witch And The Whale
There’s a story of a witch and whale. Only the witch doesn’t realize she’s a witch, while the whale is far more than a mere creature of the sea.
Love this Alysia! It leaves me wanting to hear more... 🖤
